Well term one is over and it is School Holiday’s time again!!!! There are lots of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy in the City of Canning and the City of Gosnells. We are lucky to have many spectacular parklands, the Canning River and community areas at our door step, why not check them out these school holidays!!

Kent Street Weir, Wilson

Kent Street Weir has large grassed areas for the whole family to enjoy and many walking and cycle paths through the Canning River Regional Park. There is play equipment and a café plus a BMX track and is home to the Kent Street Weir miniature train station which runs on the third Sunday of every month.

Also located at Kent Street Weir is the Canning River Eco Centre. During the school holidays Nearer to Nature run fun and educational activities for children aged 3 years and over. Bookings are essential and the programs and cost can be obtained from their website at

Masons Landing Park, Cannington

This beautiful quite park might be one of Cannington’s best kept secrets! With a playground, BBQ, toilets and situated along the Canning River with a dedicated Canoe launch site it is a great place to sit and enjoy the day.

This area also includes a memorial to commemorate the contributions of Benjamin Mason and other pioneers of the Canning district. In 1866 Benjamin Mason constructed his own timber station and formed a partnership with Francis Bird. In 1872 Mason and Bird built a wooden horse drawn railway line to transport timber from the area.

Woodloes Homestead, Cannington

Woodloes Homestead is one of Perth’s most historic properties and is located in Cannington along the Canning River. There are beautiful grounds surrounding the property, with a small chapel and a museum inside the homestead to pay tribute to the significant heritage in the local area and the life of the early settlers to the area.

This heritage listed property, built in 1871, was home to Francis Bird, an architect from England who arrived in 1869. Francis Bird established the timber company in the area with Benjamin Mason, Mason Bird and Company which was one of the biggest employers in the state at the time.

Woodloes Homestead is a fantastic example of the early life of the settlers in the area and is a great place to visit.

Neil McDougall Park, Manning

A large beautiful park centred around a lake with a walkway all the way around. This park is great for all ages, with large grassed areas and winding footpaths ideal for scooter riding plus a huge flying fox and unique play equipment, setting this apart from other playgrounds it will keep kids of all ages entertained for hours!

Mills Park, Beckenham

Mills Park has a large playground with lots of shade and a gazebo perfect for a picnic!  This is another great park that is fun for all ages. Not only does this fantastic park have a large playground it has a small skate park perfect for scooters and three large ovals for ball games!!


Mills Park in Beckenham is another of a favourite parks to visit.

 Riverton Jetty Park, Wilson

This newly redeveloped park is located on the picturesque banks of the Canning River and conveniently next to the Lo Quay River Café. The café offers seating either inside, along the banks of the quiet river or on the grassed area right up to the park itself.

The playground is nature based and makes great use of its natural surroundings, there are slides, swings, swinging ropes and even a hammock for the kids to laze and soak up the view on.
